Building a World-Class Distribution Platform

Choice Hotels International wants to make it easier for affiliate partners to resell the company's 6,000 hotel properties worldwide, including Comfort Inn, Quality Inn, Clarion, and Econo Lodge, among others. The plan? Launch a Mashery-powered API platform that lets affiliates surface Choice Hotels images, prices, and properties in their own apps and websites. The first step was an internal hackathon, guided by Mashery Developer Outreach.

Why does a hotel chain need an API?

“An API makes it easier for affiliates to integrate the descriptions, photos, and prices of our properties into their own websites and apps. It's all about building a world-class distribution platform for our travel assets."

Why hold an internal hack day if the API is for partners?

“The internal hack day was a great way to test out our API before we launched it in the marketplace. We structured the day to gather lots of feedback from our developers on what worked and what needed improvement. We also built awareness of the API in the company. It was such a success that we plan to have hack days on a regular basis."
